Getting to know Farragut
Farragut incorporated as its own town in 1980 and has run its own show ever since — planning, parks and codes — which is why the town reads noticeably more ordered than the corridors around it: landscaped medians, sign standards, sidewalk-connected subdivisions and a town-run park system.
The town takes its name from Admiral David Farragut, the U.S. Navy’s first admiral, born in 1801 at Campbell’s Station in what is now the town’s heart; the Farragut Museum inside Town Hall keeps a collection on his life. Founders Park at Campbell Station and McFee Park anchor the parks system with greenways, splash pads, ballfields and event lawns, and the town calendar runs festivals and concerts through the year.
Retail needs are covered at the town’s edge: the Turkey Creek district — one of the largest shopping concentrations in the region — plus the Kingston Pike strip through town. Boat owners have Fort Loudoun Lake access nearby at the Concord area parks.
Getting around
Kingston Pike and Campbell Station Road anchor the town; I-40/I-75 access at Campbell Station and Lovell Road; ~20 minutes to downtown Knoxville.
